Everything you can make and share travels as one small JSON file.
Clink for iOSPaired theme files
A paired .clinktheme uses the outer theme object for its shared design, name and identity. Its pairedVariants array contains exactly two complete theme objects: one with isDark set to false and one with isDark set to true. Variants cannot contain another pair. Keep pairedOverrides when editing an exported file: its light and dark lists remember which settings were customized, even if their values later match Shared. If this metadata is omitted, Clink infers it from differences between each variant and the shared theme. Omitting pairedVariants, or using an empty array, keeps a single theme.
Export a pair from the theme editor to obtain a complete example. Clink includes the photos and artwork referenced by either variant. Repository theme downloads remain data-only: photos and key artwork are not accepted in repository theme files. In a plugin page, import_theme can open a paired Clink theme document; pairedVariants is a document field, not an argument to the theme builder.
The file types
All 7 are JSON, small enough to send in a message, and registered with iOS so Files offers to open them in Clink.
| Extension | What it holds |
|---|---|
| .clinktheme | A single theme or light/dark pair: colours, materials, gradients, fonts, type treatment and shared artwork. |
| .clinklayout | A layout: the keys, where they sit and what they do. |
| .clinkconfig | Settings without a theme. A whole backup, or a single profile. |
| .clinkpack | A sound pack: its details and its audio, inside the one file. |
| .clinklang | A language you added: its profile only, never the dictionary built on your device. |
| .clinkpanel | A panel: its name, its placement and its script. |
| .clinkext | An action: its name, icon, input source and script. |
| .clinkplugin | A plugin: its name, version and script. |
| .json (AutomationDocument) | Import and export JSON from Automations. Imported rules are off, get new identities and retain their referenced themes, layouts and plugins. Missing references must be restored before the rule can run. Rules are global, with optional profile scope; they are separate from profile exports and iCloud sync. |
Where each one is made
Exporting a file saves or sends a copy; it does not upload it to Community. To submit a public listing for review with Clink Pro, use Share to Community. Each file is exported from the screen that makes it: a theme from the theme editor, a layout from the layout editor, a profile from the profiles list, a sound pack from Sound and Feel. Plugins, panels, actions and automations also have a Share tab on their detail page: tap it to open the export popup, then choose File to send a copy.
Importing themes and layouts
Open a shared file or scan its QR link with Clink. Check the preview in the import popup, then choose Import or Cancel. Layouts show their key arrangement without changing the preview to your current theme; sounds show their switch appearance. Shared settings let you create a new profile or replace your current settings. Personal imports need Membership. Only open files you trust.
A panel that arrives from a repository keeps its id instead, so a new release updates the copy you already have rather than adding a second one.
